practical vs theory

It strucked my mind dat, the reason why, sometimes theory alone is not enough is because, when u'r practically doing stg, everything, every aspect that theoretically we tend to forget to put into consideration are then put into consideration in practical. therefore, that is why, people with skils, though they might not know what to expect and why isit so, they tend to be able to cope with the situation, because of all the aspects comin, they already know the way to do it.
For example, for theory we consider A influence B
practical. A, E, C and D influence B
A person who has theory, will tend to ignore E, C and D whereas a person with practical is able to cope wth the situation which A+E+C+D= F influence B
so, a person with practical knows that F influence B though he/she might not know that F contains A, E, C and D and therefore, he is able to deal with B. hehez ^^

A speech by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Anna Quindlen

Just yesterday, I wrote a blog about science and art. And here today, I receive an email(by my dad, ThanKs dad! =)) about this speech and there's a message that I wanna bring out in my previous entry but I think I did not bring it out well. (felt really grateful =)) The highlighted part will be the message which I wanna bring out, so, here we go, enjoy this speech! A great speech by a great person, Anna Quindlen.

"I'm a novelist. My work is human nature. Real life is all I know. Don't Ever confuse the two, your life and your work. You will walk out of here this afternoon with only one thing that no one else has. There will be hundreds of people out there with your same degree: there will be thousands of people doing what you want to do for a living. But you will be the only person alive who has sole custody of your life. Your particular life. Your entire life. Not just your life at a desk, or your life on a bus, or in a car, or at the computer. Not just the life of your mind, but the life of your heart. Not just your bank accounts but also your soul.People don't talk about the soul very much anymore. It's so much easierto write a resume than to craft a spirit. But a resume is cold comfort on a winter's night, or when you're sad, or broke, or lonely, or when you've received your test results and they're not so good. Here is my resume: I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my work stand in the way of being a good parent. I no longer consider myself the centre of the universe. I show up. I listen.I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today, because I would be a cardboard cut out. But I call them on the phone, and I meet them for lunch. I would be rotten, at best mediocre at my job if those other things were not true. You cannot be really first rate at your work if your work is all you are. So here's what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a manic pursuit of the next promotion, the bigger pay cheque, the larger house. Do you think you'd care so very much about those things if you blew an aneurysm one afternoon, or found a lump in your breast?Get a life in which you notice the smell of salt water pushing itself ona breeze at the seaside, a life in which you stop and watch how ared-tailed hawk circles over the water, or the way a baby scowls with concentration when she tries to pick up a sweet with her thumb and first finger.Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure, it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an email. Write a letter. Get a life in which you aregenerous. And realize that life is the best thing ever, and that you have no business taking it for granted. Care so deeply about its goodness that you want to spread it around. Take money you would have spent on beer and give it to charity. Work in a soup kitchen. Be a big brother or sister.. All of you want to do well. But if you do not do good too, then doing well will never be enough. It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes. It is so easy to take for granted the color of our kids' eyes, the way the melody in a symphony rises and falls and disappears and rises again. It is so easy to exist instead of to live.I learned to live many years ago. I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned that it is not a dress rehearsal, and that today is the only guarantee you get. I learned to look at all the good in the world and try to give some of it back because I believed in it,completely and utterly. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned. By telling them this: Consider the lilies ofthe field. Look at the fuzz on a baby's ear. Read in the back yard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy. And think of life as a terminalillness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion as it ought to be lived".

Battle 1: Art vs Science

Man, how to start this thing? Hmm... But first of all, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone, everything, every movement, every moment and every happenings in my life today. =)
Though not feeling really well, I say to myself (well, obviously not myself.. HAhAHZ!) that I'm going to have a very happy day today, and so I did! It was a great day, and also a day of gratitude, felt really thankful and grateful for everything. *BIG WIDE SMILE! with a BIG WIDE ULCER*
OHkay, I'll start with my real post now. I wanted to write about this for quite some time already, but I seriously do not know where to start and how. Today's topic is.. Art versus Science.
Maybe we'll start with a verse: art is not a luxury but necessity. This is so so so true. And what I'm gona write today is regarding the long forgotten importance of art by people nowadays.
To many people, art- music, literature, drawings, dance etc. these are not necessities but things that u can't earn money with, things that u don't really need it, things that u shudn't focus on, things that are second to science. Though personally, I disagree with the idea.
According to my old oxford dictionary, ART refers to the creation of what is beautiful whereas SCIENCE is decribed as knowledge arranged in an orderly manner. The difference between the both is, Science is seemingly more "discipline" whereas Art as more disorganized and "flowery".
Let's step back into the past, where ancient people are dancing around the fire, when human beings are singing to express, when arts is so important. (Though I did not study much on this but hmm! mayb I can start writing a research paper on this. HAhAZ!) Eversince the evolution, Science has replaced Art, and also the presume importance of science in this society. I'm not saying that science isn't important, but wht I'm trying to do here is to let you link Art and Science. When they are actually the same thing, just that they are *marketed* in a different way. People often relate science with facts and spirituality/art as hallucination. But have u ever thought of this, if people who are non-atheist cannot prove that what they meant are true, scientist too, can't prove that they are right. How on earth would you know that the precision that is seemingly *precise* is actually *precise*? (u got wht I mean? HAhAHZ!) Art is a way to express your inner emotions, thoughts, soul and life. I foresee this as so much more important than to identify what are the chemicals found in the soil, how many planets are there in this universe. So, what if u knew? It's good to explore, it's good to know, but that shouldn't be put as a priority. (U may disagree with me of course, this is just my personal opinion.) Everything in this world needs to be proven. This is not cause by how our world is designed but was caused by the way human beings design it. I feel that people are still stuck in a world where we need to prove, we need numbers, we need facts, don't talk to me if u can't show me the paper and ink.
We were discussing about education system nowadays in class just now and our lecturer asked us about our opinion on ways to improve our education system. Look at the subjects in our primary school education, would you agree with me if I say parents and teachers put a lot of focus on science in school and at home? You would always hear parents asking children to be a doctor, lawyer, accountant etc. jobs that are *neat* but u will seldom hear parents asking their children to be what they wanna be, or, to encourage them in pursuing arts like being a musician, artist, writer, director etc. That's how the mindset is implanted at first. It's a cycle again, a trend. I foresee the future as a mixture of arts and science and hope to find balance in both but not, jz paying focus on one side. It's is important to know, yet, it is also very important to express. Humans are wired in a way where we have our senses, to see, to feel, to touch, to hear, to taste and also to sense. We have our emotions, feelings. This is where arts came from. To connect to people, arts is no more a non-important element. It is essential to express your thoughts and feelings freely, this is what arts are for. Many people thought that in order to create art, you need to have talent. But what we are talking now here is about expression. Everyone can do it and everyone does it. It's just that we don't know that we are doing it. We scribble, we draw. Though to others it might be a piece of crap, but it meant something no matter how because it came out from you. It might be reflecting your boredom, might be reflecting your thoughts, your frustration, but in a way, you are releasing yourself. Art is not expensive. It is us human who made it as if it's expensive. I hope that people do realise that ART is not a luxury but a necessity. And it plays an important role in our life too, just like science.

Headstart

Well, this is my first time to blog here, it always get kinda quirky when u make a headstart.@@
I must admit that I'm not a good writer, and words often fail me(someone will go: dun blame WORDS! .....=.='), but that's the main point here, to get rid of that mindset and to use the power of words to share and to, in other words overcome my fear of *writing and popping wrong words out*. Feeling all weird, still, (HahHAZ!) (people laugh when they felt speechless, using laughter to overcome embarassment! but hey! nothing in this world, can be substitute by anythg in whtever world.) I'm starting to get this feeling now, to be able to crap whteva and not feel woops "inappropriate" (WUHOOO~~WUHOOO~~) HAhhaHZ! so for a headstart! I'll now post my first question here:
How do you negotiate between societal rules, and personal urges??
and I repeat:
How do you NEGOTIATE (key word) between societal RULES and personal URGES?
(MUAHAHAHAHZ! this is fun!)

ohkay, mayb I should elaborate a bit on this on how did I came out with this question
hmm, basicall, it popped out of no where~
but well, I've seen people who follow rules precisely, I've seen people who do things base on their own feeling (basically, I'm one of them, though I'm still constrained and stuck in living for other peopl cz at times, I do care how people think of me.), but WHAT ARE RULES? which are Rules? how would you know, (some people would say, I jz know~=X) what is appropriate and inappropriate? how would you evaluate and fix your rules?

hmm.. my possible answers for this is:
everyone lives based on their own rules. They set their own rules and at times, they expect others to follow their rules. When others are not follwing their rules, they feel that's *inappropriate* and the societal rules, is built up, with
1. either there's a powerful leader/influential person who set up the rule, and everyone feel inferior to not follow or,
2. the majorities follow the same rule.
but does that mean the minorities are wrong? does that mean rules set by people who do not follow the traditions are wrong?

Lee Kuan Yew did mention about having everyone to follow the rules and create a harmonious societal context will enable everyone to enjoy freedom most. (please do correct me if I'm wrong)
I agree to certain extend. but to me, rules aren't meant to be follow, if they are applicable enough to you, and meet your believes, you will act out of it, now, that won't be a rule anymore, that would be your personal urge. hmm.. come to think of it, mayb it's a combination of both!! hahaz!
ohkay, so I'll stop here for now, and hope to get some comments and opinions on my post! =)

good day people! =)
